It seems like a long time ago that we were preparing to launch into our novel. As we move into remote learning, be sure to check out Google Classroom and our extra resources page. I will be posting videos to this playlist for students to watch. I am also hoping to be able to set up some live classes when we determine the best platform for that. Wishing everyone health and sanity right now!

We are finally wrapping up our unit on snowmen; it has culminated in a poem recitation that we will turn into a karaoke rap for French rep next week. Next up is reading the short novel, Le Vol des oiseaux. We have begun our research on the country in which this book takes place: Cameroon.

As I look outside at all of the snow, I'm excited about our next unit in sixth grade-snowmen! (I have written about this unit here on my blog.) We will memorize a poem about a snowman, watch two animated short films featuring snowmen, and check out some of the more interesting snowmen creations by Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes.

We have finished our work with our most recent animated short film about a vampire who just can’t catch a break at the dentist. Our most recent reading focused on a strange house with some very weird residents. At the core of this reading was the grammar concept of categorization of nouns (masculine and feminine). After Thanksgiving we will begin one of my favorite activities of the year: Noël Madness, a month-long exploration of French holiday commercials that a friend of my has developed into a “March Madness” type of bracket with voting and a winner.

As some of you may have heard me say at Curriculum Night last night, it has been a lot of fun to reconnect with these students after a year away from them! We have jumped right into some traditional, and not-so-traditional activities in our classes. Students are preparing for their first poem recitation, coming up next week. (Click here for information about homework.) We have been establishing our classroom norms, one of the most important of which is to use French as the language of communication in the classroom.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns, and I look forward to updating you on our activities as the year progresses!
