It seems like a long time ago that we were reading our fables! As we move into remote learning, be sure to check out our extra resources page. I will be posting videos to this playlist for students to watch. (I must admit, I'm pretty happy about my hand-washing song!!) I am also hoping to be able to set up some live classes when we determine the best platform for that. Wishing everyone health and sanity right now!

We have wrapped up our work with the animated short Bridge and moved on to fables. Le lapin et la tortue was our first, and we will soon be reading Le lion et la souris. Once again, reading has been at the root of our lessons. We also learned a number game that involves a little bit of strategy and planning to avoid being eliminated.

Reading has played an important role in our recent class. We have even had some grammar discussions (though the kids don’t know it!). We used out Bridge short animated clip to discuss singular and plural verb forms. Using screen shots from the video, we solidified our ability to discuss the video; we then added sentence strips that corresponded to these images. Students finished this unit by copying the sentences into a book and illustrating the book. We are working on all skill levels in second grade: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

I am excited to begin my third year in a row with these students! We have spent a lot of time thinking and talking and singing about animals, their noises, and what they can and can't do. Check out a couple of the videos we have watch and sung along with over the past couple of weeks.(We also learned who is talented enough in our classes to juggle! We will spend some time graphing what we have learned about our classmates.) Pocoyo has several appearances, and our first real "Movie Talk" will be coming soon.
